Program of the Day

10:00 am Opening
11:00 am Fashion Show
12:00 pm Modern dance performance by Harmony Dance Center
1:00 pm Official Inauguration
1:45 pm Conference by Dr Hilary Kaiser, historian, university professor and author
American soldiers in France during and after WWI and WWII fraternized with French women, many of these flirtations ended in bicultural engagements and marriages. Brought to the US by their husbands and fiances in the 1920s and 1940s, some 12,000 French women had to adapt to a new culture and life style. Like many of us when we move abroad , they faced issues of culture shock, language, stereotypes, French-American cultural differences and bicultural relationships.
Come hear Dr Kaiser talk about their experiences and how they managed.

2:30 pm Conference by Sylvia Kurpanek, intercultural coach
Particularly in Silicon Valley, many people work with co-workers, associates, and customer from different countries and backgrounds. Intercultural competence can help view differences as opportunities rather than difficulties. For this, getting an understanding on one's own culture and values, overcoming one's "fears" and insecurities, and learning to deal effectively with challenges in communication are important. Sylvia Kurpanek will talk about her experiences in helping clients attain intercultural competence using effective coaching techniques from Europe.

3:15 pm Stories for Children told in French by Les Petits Livres
4:00 pm Raffle by French American Kids
4:30 pm Singing performance by Dolce Voce Music Studio
5:00 pm Ballet performance by Cassand Ballet School & Company
